'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews clash with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the dramatic dying seconds of his team's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles following the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative effort from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly slammed home the deflection before charging toward the home end to revel in the moment, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory capped an incredible recovery given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win earned a next round match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right flank after the team changed tactics. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the opposition who praised the way the underdogs approached the match.

City's Quality

"Physically they are very good but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It seems as if they always find their target and they are adept at dictate and neutralize a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and attention just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a popular figure across a couple of years at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in south Wales. At Orient he linked up again with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a spell at League Two Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a slightly green going into men's football. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without real physicality. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that growth for club and country, performing well for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including two matches encounters against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Humble Beginnings

This represents quite the ride for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who used to see his dad, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

His single match for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was closed owing to conditions of -15C. "That proved to be a long trip and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "This turned out fairly simple, because I reached the point where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Life in Swansea

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a minibus driven by team personnel, the drivers, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with a teammate, Ronald, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to socialize with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one to drive independently and on the road. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on public transport after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
