Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important representative stated the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
